Track 14: Entering politics. NY State Assembly. Navigating the factions (Clintons, Schuylers).

Order!
Order in the Assembly!
Albany again. But the room has changed.
The chairs are the same, but the power’s rearranged.
Governor Clinton sits on the throne.
Holding New York like a dog with a bone.
The Schuylers are watching, waiting to bite.
Federalist money vs. Democratic might.
I walk in the middle. I walk on the line.
I don't show my colors. I don't give a sign.
The Assembly.
Where the laws are made.
Where the debts are paid.
Where the blade… is displayed.
I’m watching the factions. I’m learning the dance.
I’m looking for the perfect circumstance.
To rise.
They want me to vote. They want me to pledge.
"Are you with us, Burr? Or are you on the edge?"
I smile and I nod and I shake every hand.
But I don't let anyone see where I stand.
Because if you stand still, you’re an easy target.
I’m moving through the noise of the political market.
Clinton likes me. He sees a useful tool.
But he doesn't know I’m nobody’s fool.
Hamilton is loud. He screams at the wall.
Clinton is proud. He thinks he won’t fall.
But I am the water that flows through the crack.
I am the silent, inevitable attack.
The Assembly.
Where the laws are made.
Where the debts are paid.
Where the blade… is displayed.
I’m done with the practice. I’m done with the start.
I’m ready to play a much bigger part.
Attorney General.
That sounds… appropriate.
