Theo?
Theo?

The house is so quiet.
The books are all closed.
The garden is dying, the weeds have imposed.
I sit by the window where we used to talk.
I watch the ghost of your step on the walk.
They tell me that time will heal every wound.
But they don't know how perfectly we were attuned.
You were my compass. You were my map.
Now I am lost in the wideness of the gap.

Theodosia.
The light has gone out of the room.
Theodosia.
I am left in the gathering gloom.
What is ambition? What is the prize?
If I can't see the pride in your eyes?
Gone.
Gone.

Our daughter is weeping. She looks just like you.
I have to be strong. I have to pull through.
I hold her hand and I smooth back her hair.
But God, it is heavy. It’s hard to bear.
I promised to wait for you. And I did.
We had twelve years. A love that we hid
And then shouted to heaven.
Twelve years.
It wasn't enough.

Sleep now, my love.
The pain is all done.
I will finish the race.
I will run.
I will run.
For you.

Theodosia.
The light has gone out of the room.
Theodosia.
I am left in the gathering gloom.
Wait for me.
Wait for me.

Just wait.
